🎨 How to color it

Shade the unicorn pearl white with a silver mane, make the cattails warm brown, the lily pads deep green, and the moon pale butter yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the flowing mane, tree bark lines, reeds, and ripple rings, then switch to light side-strokes for the open water. Try a cool blue-to-violet wash behind the moon so the white unicorn feels bright against the forest night.

Every night, before the owls began their soft hoo-hoo counting, Brenna stepped into the forest pond and tried her small challenge: take one drink without bending a single moon ripple. The water smelled of mud, mint, and cattail fuzz, and the round moon made a silver coin on the surface.

Until one night, the coin broke into shivers. Tiny glasswing moths dipped and bumped above the pond, their wings dull as wet paper. Because Brenna stood too still, the moths circled her horn, thirsty for moonlight. Because they circled, her horn gathered the glow she had been saving for her perfect sip.

At last Brenna lowered her head and touched the water on purpose. Rings rolled outward, carrying silver to every lily pad. The moths drank from the shining edges and rose like sparks. “There,” Brenna whispered. Her joy felt too wide for one throat, so she breathed it across the pond. If you find the ripple nearest her nose, you may catch the last piece of that silver coin.
