🎨 How to color it

Layer the wolf’s fur in cool silver and charcoal, give the full moon a pale butter yellow, and tint the pine forest deep blue-green with slate mountains below. Use sharp colored pencils for the many fur tufts, working from the outer edges of each section toward the center so the strokes follow the wolf’s natural flow. For a tattoo-flash twist, blend violet into indigo around the wind spirals and stars while keeping the wolf’s eyes a clear amber focal point.

Before the moon cleared the black pines, Orin set himself a quiet challenge: count every spiral the night wind drew between the stars. He marked them in his field book with silver ink that smelled faintly of rain on stone, one curl, then another, while the mountain snow held the last blue of evening. The count began to grow faster than his hand. Then, in the polished dark of a wolf’s steady eyes, he saw tiny moons, clouds, trees—and his own bowed head, another mark inside the pattern. Orin closed the book and listened as curiosity ran on, spiral after spiral, between the stars.
