🎨 How to color it

Layer the wheat stalks in golden ocher, the rolling field bands in olive and russet, the arched hills in muted teal, and the sun in warm amber. Use sharp pencils and work outward from the tiny grain leaves and chevron paths before filling the larger sky rays. Try a pale peach-to-copper gradient inside the sun, then keep the surrounding rays cooler so the harvest light feels handmade and luminous.

Before dawn, with chaff dust soft on his cuffs, Ansel pressed his thumb along a strip of copper and wished for a wheat seal he could cut himself. The granary masters used bright stamps on every sheaf ribbon, but his strip stayed plain. He left the warm threshing room for the terrace fields, following the hush of bent grain and the smell of dry straw, trading his last spool of wire to mend a farmer’s broken binding hook along the way.

Past the arched windbreaks, the furrows rose and dipped like sleeping waves. Ansel knelt where one row sounded different under his boot: not crunch, but a low, hollow clink. Beneath a flat stone nobody had lifted, he found a small bronze mold, its face carved with a sunburst and one open groove shaped like wheat. “So that’s where you were,” he whispered, and the cold metal warmed in his palm.

By morning he returned with sore fingers, no wire, and something better than the masters’ stamp. He poured softened copper into the hidden mold, filed the edges smooth, and pressed his first handmade seal onto a ribbon while sunrise spread over the fields like chaff dust soft on his cuffs.
