🎨 How to color it

Give the butterfly wings layered amber and coral, the tall leaves deep emerald, the flowers soft lilac and rose, and the round sun a clear golden yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the wing scallops, leaf veins, and narrow sunbeam panes, working one small glass section at a time. For a luminous twist, shade each sunbeam from pale lemon near the sun to warm peach at the garden edges.

Every morning, Ione polished the glasshouse paths until the first light split into ribbons over the leaves. She counted each pane by touch: cool stem, smooth petal, warm ray, always ending at the round sun where gold dust smelled faintly of rain on stone. Her ledger had no room for guesses, only colors, cracks, and dates.

Until one morning, a butterfly settled on the sunburst and would not move. Because of that, Ione leaned close enough to see a darker line under the yellow glass; because of that, she lifted the forgotten lead seam with her smallest knife. Inside lay a folded sliver of blue so thin it trembled like breath, marked with tiny paths no gardener had planted.

“Where do you begin?” she whispered. The butterfly opened and closed its wings, and every ray on the floor pointed not outward, but down. At last Ione left her ledger open, followed the runaway light beneath the roots, and found a door glowing with the same warm ray.
