🎨 How to color it

Give the central bat deep violet wings, the small pumpkins burnt orange, the crescent moons pale silver, and the leafy scrollwork moss green. Use sharp colored pencils for the wing panels, tiny bats, and narrow vine curls, then shade each ring from the inner circle outward to avoid smudging. Try a mischievous twist by making every other pumpkin glow golden, as if the mandala is hiding a secret midnight signal.

Every evening, Vesper counted the carved rings above the old bell tower and tucked one stolen moonbeam into the plainest groove, just to see whether he could improve the town without anyone noticing. The stone smelled of rain, dust, and last year’s candle smoke. Until one night, his echo coughed from the rafters and shouted, “Mine!” so loudly that the pumpkins in the border blinked awake.

Because of that, Vesper had to work between the echo’s silly repeats—snip, “snip!” shine, “shine!”—and the tower began flashing crooked silver grins across the square. Because of that, sleepy bakers, hat-makers, and one offended cat followed the light upstairs with lanterns. Vesper hid behind a crescent and, rather than confess, pushed his last moonbeam into the darkest pumpkin. Finally the whole ring warmed at once, enough for everyone below to find their dropped coins, lost gloves, and courage, while Vesper’s echo whispered, much smaller now, “Ours,” into the carved rings.
