🎨 How to color it

Color Ben’s coveralls denim blue, the raised tire charcoal gray, the toolbox cherry red, and the pegboard tools sunny yellow and steel silver. Use sharp pencils for the pegboard dots, wrench handles, and tire tread, then switch to broader strokes for Ben’s hair and coveralls. Try making the hanging lamp glow pale butter yellow so the wheel rim looks extra shiny underneath it.

The story behind this coloring page

Ben’s Wrench-Waiting Game — Under the warm garage lamp, Ben clicked a wrench onto the wheel nut and invented the Slowest Game in the Shop. Read the full story →

Under the warm garage lamp, Ben clicked a wrench onto the wheel nut and invented the Slowest Game in the Shop. The rules were simple: pull, pause, listen, and do not grin too loudly. He wanted to hear the tiny “tink” that meant the nut had settled snug. The pegboard tools watched from their dotted wall while rubbery tire smell curled around the workbench.

Ben waited through one drip from the oil can, two squeaks from his boot, and three very rude wiggles from his own nose. “No rushing the tink,” he whispered. He pulled again—creeeak—and froze like a statue mechanic with messy hair. Still nothing.

Then a crumb rolled out of the open toolbox. A mouse popped up behind the hammer, wearing a washer like a crown, and tapped the metal box: tink. Ben laughed so hard the wrench slipped half an inch, but the real wheel nut answered with its own neat tink at last. The mouse bowed; Ben bowed back. Next time you spot the toolbox, check whether the washer-crowned champion is hiding there, still waiting under the warm garage lamp.
