Every evening, Pippa raced down Festival Lane with her tiny brass button tucked in her sock. It was too plain for anyone else, but it had come from her old drum strap, and she tapped it for luck: tik-tik, tik! One windy night, the parade circle stayed dark. No lanterns, no music, only paper flags snapping like wings. Then Pippa’s button rolled from her sock and clicked into a round hole in the stone curb.
Because of that, the ground hummed under her sneakers. Because of THAT, rings of giant flowers, leaf-shaped doors, and dotty blue lights spun open with a whoosh of clover-smelling air. “This is my beat!” Pippa shouted, tapping tik-tik, tik until every lantern flashed awake. At last, the parade burst around her, bright and thumping, and Pippa knew the circle had been waiting for her all along. Next time you see the little round dots, can you spot where her button might click?
