🎨 How to color it

Color the boy’s sun hat sandy beige, his anchor shirt seafoam green, his star-print shorts coral, and the sandcastle warm tan. Use sharp colored pencils for the wave’s long curved lines, following each stripe from the foamy crest down toward the bottom edge. Try a blue-to-turquoise blend on the big curling wave so it feels taller than the calm horizon behind him.

At the edge of the tide, Soren pressed his toes into cool, fizzing foam and invented a game before the water could steal his footprints. One small wave was a whisper, two was a clap, three was a drumroll; when the fourth curled high, he raised his hand and named it “Sun Salute.” Salt shone on his knees, and the air smelled like warm shells.

The game grew without asking. A bucket became the scorekeeper, a shovel stood guard, and his sandcastle wore a tiny flag for the winning waves. “Your turn, ocean,” Soren called. The next wave slid back with a hush—and left a perfect star pressed beside the castle, though no hand had drawn it.

Then Soren saw the trick: the sea had been playing too, answering every name with a mark in the sand. Whisper made ripples, Drumroll made dots, and Sun Salute lifted him on a shining curl. If you trace the foam with your eyes, can you find where the ocean answered before it stole the footprints?
