🎨 How to color it

Color the butterfly’s wings in monarch orange with teal flower details, make the lavender spikes soft purple, the poppies coral red, and the distant farmhouse creamy white. Use sharp colored pencils for the wing veins and tiny blossom clusters, then switch to lighter side-strokes for the long field rows and rolling hills. Try a sunset twist by fading the sky from pale peach near the hills to sky blue around the clouds and round sun.

Between two lavender rows, Quinby balanced a stem, a daisy petal, and one poppy seed pod on a flat stone. She had set herself a grand challenge: build a whistle tiny enough to carry and silly enough to make the field snort. The lavender smelled sharp and sweet, and every time her wing brushed it, bees muttered, “Too tickly.”

She poked holes with a thorn, tied the petal with grass, and blew. Pfft. She tried again. Fweee-blorp! A cloud seemed to wobble. Quinby puffed up proudly, though the sound had made a beetle drop his lunch crumb. “That was nearly music,” she declared.

Then the long rows answered: fweee-blorp, fweee-blorp, fweee-blorp, all the way toward the little farmhouse. Quinby blinked. Her whistle was not just a whistle; the rows were giant sound tunnels, carrying her joke across the farm. She tucked her handmade machine under one leg and bowed to the purple crowd. Next time you see her over the lavender, can you spot the proud maker who taught a whole field to snort?
