🎨 How to color it

Try a soft ginger coat for the cat, warm cream for the bunny, sage green leaves in the raised beds, and terra-cotta pots under the round window. Use sharp colored pencils for the many leaf clusters, apron flowers, brick floor lines, and hanging basket ribs so the small details stay crisp. For a shared glow, shade the glass roof panes from pale sky blue at the top to a barely-there mint near the plant tables.

Before the south panes warmed, Elara pressed a flat paper packet to her apron pocket and listened for the tiny tick-tick she had heard only once before. The packet looked like nothing—gray, bent, smelling faintly of rain and drawer dust—but it had been tucked in the hem by the first keeper, along with a note: Do not plant this alone. She meant to prove the note wrong, just between us, until the seed rolled out and chimed against the watering can like a spoon on a teacup.

At that sound, every quiet pot in the glasshouse answered. Soil lifted in soft sighs. Hanging baskets swung without wind. Even the smallest sprouts leaned close, as if the secret had been waiting under their roots. Elara laughed so hard she had to hand the can to Orbin, who was carrying three sleepy seedlings and wearing his most serious gardening face. “All right,” she whispered, “everybody gets a turn.”

So the seed was passed from paw to paw, watered by one, warmed by another, and cheered by everyone until a flower opened with enough yellow light to gild the brick path. Ever since, greenhouse aprons in town carry little blossoms on their pockets, because the first impossible sprout refused to bloom for only one heart.
