🎨 How to color it

Try deep emerald for the central knotwork, amber gold for the arched bands, sapphire blue for the pointed leaf shapes, and soft violet in the corner spirals. Use sharp pencils and color one woven strand at a time, following each over-and-under path before moving to the neighboring loops. For a stained-glass glow, shade each small pane darker along the black leading and leave a pale highlight near the center of the shape.

At the west bench, Sorrel drew a rule in dust with her fingertip: follow one line until it brings you back, and name what you carry. She wanted the right word for home, something truer than address. The new game led her from the warm stone hollow into the cloister gallery, where rain tapped the roof like patient knuckles and the air smelled of limewash and wet wool. At each crossing, she gave up a certainty: her favorite silence, her quickest answer, the neat little path she had expected.

By the time the line curved inward again, her candle had burned low and wax had cooled against her thumb. The word had not appeared as a banner or bell. It arrived as pressure: the bench remembered her shape, the glass held her waiting, the rain kept time without asking. “Here,” she whispered, and the whole woven dark seemed to soften. Sorrel returned with no prize but the game itself, and found the west bench exactly where her fingertip had begun.
