🎨 How to color it

Color the dragonfly’s wings in pale aqua and lavender, the lily pads in deep emerald, the water lilies in blush pink, and the reeds in olive green. Use sharp colored pencils and work one wing or petal section at a time, since the stained-glass lead lines create many narrow panes. For a luminous twist, layer a golden wash through the pond ripples directly beneath the dragonfly, as if the glass has caught late afternoon sun.

At dusk, Liora pressed cool lead around the marsh window, trying to mend the one pane that never caught light. The reeds hissed like paper, and mud smelled of rain. Beneath the largest lily root—where no glasskeeper stored anything—her knife touched a tiny sealed vial, warm as a held breath. When she opened it, laughter rose in gold flecks, too bright for one hand. “Go on,” she whispered. A dragonfly drank the glow and carried it from pad to pad. Ever since, dragonflies wear glass wings because joy that large must be shared.
