🎨 How to color it

Give the robot’s armor burnished copper and deep teal panels, the gear eyes antique gold, the clock faces ivory, and the surrounding clouds a pale lavender-gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny gears, leaves, stars, and paisley curls, coloring each armor plate from its outer edge toward the center to keep the patterns crisp. For a dramatic twist, shade the crown points from gold at the base to cool silver at the tips, as if the whole robot has been lit by a secret sky engine.

Between us, Calder did not intend to give anything away; he had polished one small crown gear until it smelled of warm brass and oil, meaning to fit it into the city clock before dawn. Then, above the gear bridges, he met a cloud-mender with torn sleeves and no wheel left to wind the morning mist. No bell rang, no clerk watched. Calder lifted the shining gear from his own brow and pressed it into her quiet machine. The mist curled, the bridges vanished, and the clock still kept time. Ever since, sky gears drift where clouds need mending, carrying generosity nobody saw.
