🎨 How to color it

Try soft chestnut for the rabbit’s fur, dusty pink inside the tall ears, sage green for the cushion leaves, and clay orange for the potted plant. Use short pencil strokes following the fur lines on the rabbit, then switch to smoother side-strokes for the wood floor and window frame. Make the yarn ball a secret rainbow by coloring each crossing strand a different shade of blue, gold, or violet.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Yarn Balls Keep Secrets — Under the sunroom window, tap-tap-tap went a sound no paw could catch. Read the full story →

Under the sunroom window, tap-tap-tap went a sound no paw could catch. Cedro pressed his nose to the cool floorboards, wanting to know who was knocking before the afternoon light slid away. The potted spider plant rustled like it was holding its breath. The cushion smelled of cotton and old leaves. Tap-tap. Not the glass. Not the wall. Not even the tiny beetle hiding under the rug fringe.

Then the yarn ball twitched.

Cedro hooked one claw into a loose loop and pulled. Hush—out slipped a curled paper seed, tucked deep where no one ever looked, dry and whispery as onion skin. On it, in ant-sized green marks, was written: WATER THE SILENT ONE. Cedro looked at the plant. One pale shoot drooped behind the others, too shy to reach the rim.

He nudged his water dish until it splashed the pot. By morning, the hidden shoot stood tall, and every yarn ball in the sunroom kept one small hollow inside, just in case a secret needed somewhere round to wait. If you spot the tangled ball by Cedro’s paw, would you trust it to be empty?
