Every night, Milo checked the silver racer after everyone left: latches clicked, hoses sighed, wrenches hung like tidy teeth. He wanted one perfectly quiet inspection before dawn qualifying—until a fat rear tire gave a polite little clap.
Because of that, he rolled it across the bay; clap-clap-clap went the tire, and the sound bounced off the tool chest. Because of that, he opened every drawer, sniffed brake dust and coffee, and accused three innocent lug nuts. Finally he checked the place nobody checked: inside the spare’s hollow rim. Out tumbled a springy toy monkey with cymbals and a note from the night crew: SHARE THE GOOD LUCK. Milo laughed so hard the air hose trembled, then set the monkey on the workbench for every driver to tap before rolling out. By sunrise, even the silver racer seemed to gleam with one perfectly quiet inspection.
