🎨 How to color it

Color the T. rex olive green with darker moss spots, the tall tree trunks warm brown, and the ferns in lime, jade, and deep forest green. Use sharp colored pencils for the many skinny fern leaflets and vine lines, then switch to a broader tip for the dinosaur’s belly and tail. Try a mischievous sunrise glow behind the trees, fading from peach near the ground to pale yellow above the T. rex’s grin.

Every day, Bixby padded through the canopy maze at snack time, sniffing for squishberries and pretending not to hear the tiny “hee-hee” above him. Every day, a berry bounced off his nose, plip, and the vines shook like someone was laughing into a leaf. Bixby wanted to catch the prankster, but the branches were too high and his arms were, as usual, not helpful.

Until one day, he did not roar. He waited. Because of that, the jungle went still except for dripping moss and the buzz of blue flies. Because of THAT, a berry rolled out from a curled giant leaf near his foot—and so did a tiny wooden whistle, chewed with tooth marks. Bixby grinned his biggest toothy grin.

“Gotcha,” he whispered, and blew the whistle backward. PFFFT! From inside a hollow vine, three little compys tumbled out, dusty and giggling. Bixby had waited six whole snack times for that surprise. Next time you spot his lifted foot and sideways smile, check the leaves nearby—maybe the giggle is still hiding where nobody thought to look.
