Before the first customers reached the market gate, Wren patted the empty nail on the watermelon crate and felt her stomach pinch. The little blue tag should have been there, scratched with her great-aunt’s tiny star. Without it, the Sweet crate looked like any other box in the row. Wren slipped from behind the cool shadow of the stall, past baskets smelling of peaches and basil, following a flash of blue between shoes and cart wheels.

A gust shoved the tag under the big watermelon display. Wren crawled after it, gravel biting her knees, while voices thumped above her like drums. She found the tag wedged beneath the crate marked SWEET—beside a folded paper no bigger than a seed packet. On it, in her great-aunt’s handwriting, were the words: Save this spot for the one who notices small things.

Wren tied the tag back on with twine, then stayed at the front where the banner snapped softly overhead. “This one is ready,” she told a shopper, tapping a striped melon that gave a low, hollow song. By noon, the stall felt less like a place she helped and more like a place that had been waiting for her. If you spot the Sweet crate, you’ll know exactly where Wren’s secret was hiding.
