Between striped canyon walls, Zavi tapped one sickle claw on the stone path: tik, tik, TAK! He had just invented Echo Dash, a game for a raptor who wanted to make the biggest sound he dared. He bounded past fern fans and pebble piles, calling, “Dash!” The warm rocks smelled dusty, and his chest buzzed like beetle wings.
Each leap added a rule. Tail-feathers high meant hop twice. A scratch on the ground meant whirl. At the tall cliff, Zavi puffed up, opened his toothy mouth, and shouted the newest rule: “Brave!”
“Brave!” answered someone from the rock.
Zavi froze with one foot in the air. Then the cliff answered again, softer, and he understood: the canyon was playing too. He laughed, quick and bright, and made a tiny chirp. The cliff chirped back. From then on, Echo Dash had two players—Zavi and the stony voice—tik, tik, TAK, if you can spot the lifted claw ready for the next brave sound.
