🎨 How to color it

Use deep navy for the armored police rescue truck, bright red and cobalt blue for the rooftop light bar, steel gray for the bumper hooks, and pale yellow for the city windows. The many triangular armor panels, tire treads, and jagged background bolts reward sharp pencils and slow layering from the center outward. Try a hot orange glow behind the roof lights so the cool blue truck feels like it is bursting through the street canyon.

Every night, Cassian tuned Rescue Twelve beneath the underpass, counting the radio’s patient clicks while rainwater hissed along the curb. He wanted the missing emergency ping, the one that had blinked out during a tower test, and he refused to send the truck back until he heard it clean.

Until one night, the city sirens leaped awake all at once. Because of that, Rescue Twelve tore into the downtown canyon, lights striking glass in red-blue shards; because of that, every wrong signal bounced from bank doors, bus shelters, even a neon pretzel sign. Cassian waited through each false chirp, fingers still on the dash, while the two officers held the avenue steady.

Then, behind the hood shield, something tapped: tick…tick…three bright ticks. “There,” Cassian said. The lost beacon had hidden where nobody checked, warmed by the engine, patient as a coal. He unclipped it, and the radio opened into one clear note, counting the night’s patient clicks.
