🎨 How to color it

Color the gnome’s coat moss green, his boots warm brown, the giant mushroom caps red with cream spots, and the distant mushroom cottage soft blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin leaf veins, beard strands, mushroom gills, and curling wind lines, then fill larger trunks and caps with smoother strokes. Try making the starry sky a dusky purple-to-navy gradient so the pale path and tiny cottage windows seem to glow.

Under the root-roof of his stump workshop, Orlo pressed two acorn caps together and frowned at his coat. The clasp he had carved from bark kept popping open—click, snap, plink—so he set himself a challenge: before moonrise, he would make a proper moon-button with his own hands. He packed a thorn needle, three threads of spider silk, and stepped beyond his warm sawdust smell into the hush of the old forest trail.

The trees leaned close, creaking like doors that did not want opening. To reach the starfall resin, Orlo had to cross the nettle ditch; it nipped his sock and stole one silver button from his sleeve. Far ahead, a mushroom cottage blinked one round window. “I only need a thumbful,” he whispered. Beneath the tallest spotted caps, he found amber resin glowing in a crack of wood, sticky as honey and smelling faintly of rain on stone.

Back in his workshop, Orlo shaped the resin around the lost silver button’s thread, polished it with fern fuzz, and stitched until his fingers ached. The new clasp held fast, shining with one tiny star inside. If you follow the curling night wind past the giant mushrooms, you might spot the place where Orlo rested after earning his moon-button—click, snap, no plink.
