🎨 How to color it

Color the boy’s cap cherry red, his shirt sunny yellow, the wooden dock honey brown, and the tackle box bright blue. Use broad crayon strokes on the lake and sky, then switch to a sharper pencil for the rope coils, fishing line, and little hook. Try making the bobber half red and half white so it pops against pale blue water rings.

The story behind this coloring page

Felix Hears the Lake Cheer — With his sneakers tapping the dock boards, Felix cast his line for the plunk he loved best. Plunk! Read the full story →

With his sneakers tapping the dock boards, Felix cast his line for the plunk he loved best. Plunk! The bobber bounced, the rope beside the tackle box smelled like wet grass, and warm wind pushed little waves under his dangling feet. He grinned and whispered, “Again!” Each cast made a new circle on the lake, bigger and bigger, as if the water were clapping for him.

Then a green reed drifted up, toot-toot-tooting like a tiny horn. Another reed bobbed beside it, then a whole row, playing a wiggly lake song. Felix did not pull the hook in. He held the rod high like a parade leader, and the ripples marched around the bobber. From the far bank, frogs answered, chuck-chuck! Felix tapped faster, right where the dock, the fish, the reeds, and his happy feet all knew the beat. Next time you see those round ripples, can you hear Felix’s plunk?
