🎨 How to color it

Use candy-cane red for the elf’s hat, peach for the smiling face and pointed ears, bright green for the holly leaves, and sunny yellow for the stars. Chunky crayons are perfect for the big hat, round cheeks, and simple trees; it is okay if little hands color over the bold lines. For a funny twist, make the hat pom-pom look like a peppermint snowball with red and white stripes.

Every night, Doodle tapped his hat pom-pom and waited for its tiny wink. “Not yet?” he whispered, smelling pine and cold holly.

One night, the pom-pom bounced—boing!—and rolled into the frost-garden. Because of that, Doodle chased it past zigzag trees. Because of THAT, sleepy stars sneezed sparkle on his nose. He waited, grinning, not grabbing.

At last the pom-pom winked, warm and round, and popped back on his hat. Next time you see his big smile, can you spot the wink he waited for?
