🎨 How to color it

Color the rainbow bands coral, marigold, sage, turquoise, and violet, then give the spotted mushroom caps warm red-orange, the daisies creamy white, and the leafy trees deep olive. Use sharp colored pencils for the small leaf veins, mushroom spots, star dots, and spiral cloud curls, working from the outer edges toward the larger rainbow bands. Try a dusk-to-dawn twist by shading the sky pale lavender near the stars while keeping the winding pebble path a soft sandy beige.

Under the fern roof, Junie rubbed the blue button in her pocket until it clicked softly against her thumbnail. It had come from her mother’s old raincoat, the one that smelled like cedar smoke and wet wool, and Junie wanted rainbow thread to stitch it onto her own jacket before the evening mist rolled in.

Past the mushroom ring, the path curled between tall flowers and whispering leaves. A beetle peddler waited under a striped awning made of petals. “One spool for one bright thing,” he said. Junie’s fingers tightened around the button. The air smelled of damp earth and pollen, and her knees felt fizzy, but she placed the button on his leaf tray. In return, he handed her thread that shimmered like seven quiet songs.

On the walk back, rain began tapping the caps: tik, tik, tik. Junie looked at the empty place in her pocket, then at the thread glowing in her palm. At home, she stitched a small loop inside her jacket instead of sewing the button on. Now she could carry any found treasure safely. Next time you trace the little path beneath the rainbow, maybe you can hear the blue button clicking softly in Junie’s pocket.
