Under the star meadow, Pip tucked his nose inside his warm, speckled egg and listened to peep-peep bubbles drift past. He wanted one smooth moon pebble for his nest, so he wiggled out through the crack and stepped into the cool grass, carrying his shiniest shell piece.
Halfway to the silver pebble patch, a tiny cloud-moth bumped his horn. Its wings trembled like paper in a whispery wind. “Cold,” it squeaked. Pip looked at his shell piece, then at the moth. He wrapped the moth in it and walked home without a pebble, toes chilly and heart warm. At dawn, soft moth dust sparkled inside his egg like moonlight.
