If I tell you this, promise not to tell the seagulls: Lina invented Shadow-Tag beside the warm, hissing waves. She wanted one cool patch of shade to stay still long enough for her toes, her bike tires, and her shell basket to be “safe.” But the sun kept sliding, sly as a crab, and the palm leaves only made stripey shadows that ran away.
“Hold still, shade!” Lina whispered. She tied her striped beach umbrella to the middle of her bike and rolled it over the sand. Ahhh—the shadow came with her, round and soft, while shells clicked in the basket and boats bobbed far out on the glittery water. Every rider wanted a turn in Lina’s new moving shade.
