🎨 How to color it

Color the ghost pearl white with pale blue shadows, the jack-o’-lantern bright pumpkin orange, the leaves golden yellow, and the confetti bits purple. Use broad crayon strokes on the pumpkin’s big curved sections, then switch to a sharper pencil for the triangle eyes and tiny flying pieces. Try making the pumpkin cracks glow lemon yellow, as if your ghost’s surprise is shining out from inside.

Under the soft straw smell of the pumpkin patch, Luma tucked her bent paper crown into a hollow pumpkin. She had folded it herself from a seed packet because she wanted the quiet orange house to make one tiny bell sound. Tap, tap, tap went her pebble. Nothing rang.

So Luma tore leaf shapes, tucked them in the cracks, and whispered, “Please pop, little bell.” The pumpkin warmed under her hands. Crackle! Up flew Luma, crown, leaves, and all, with a happy boo that sounded round and golden. Ever since, when a jack-o’-lantern splits into a grin and a ghost pops out, it is because Luma’s handmade pumpkin bell is still ringing—can you spot the little pieces flying with her?
