Every dusk, Thalia counted the curls of mist along the cloud citadel’s gate, polished her horned helm, and waited for the bronze chime that never rang. One evening, a paper-thin sky dragon slipped between the spirals, smelling of rain on hot stone, and folded itself into the silent bell. Because of that, the gate filled with a low blue hum; because of that, the sleeping mountain dragons answered from beyond the fog. At last Thalia did not strike the bell. She only listened, and the chime bloomed after all, patient as the curls of mist.
