Under the quietest arch of Kelp Lagoon, Tula lined up seven glow-pearls on a flat shell and touched each one with her star-tipped wand. Plink, plink, plink. She had dared herself to carry the brightest pearl past the tickly seaweed curtain and place it where the old tide singer rested after humming the waves to sleep. The pearl felt cool and slick in her palm, and the lagoon smelled like salt, crushed mint kelp, and moonlit shells.
Beyond her cozy arch, the current tugged at her crown. A crab clicked from a sand hole. Tula almost turned back when a swirl of foam snatched one ribbon from her necklace. She let it go. The tide singer’s cave was dark, except for tired bubbles rising slowly, pop... pop... pop. Tula tucked the glow-pearl beside the cave door and whispered, “For your next song.”
On the way home, she found no ribbon, no applause, and no one waiting to praise her. But the water had changed. A low, gentle hum followed her through the kelp, smoothing every wave curl. When you find Tula among the shells and bubbles, can you spot the wand that began with plink, plink, plink?
