🎨 How to color it

Color the smiling whale sky blue, the two big tail fins lavender-gray, the spiral seashell peach and coral, and the bubbles pale aqua. The whale bodies have large, open spaces, so chunky crayons or broad marker strokes will fill them quickly while staying inside the bold lines. Try making the center whale a little brighter than the tails, like it has just swum into a secret patch of sunlight.

Under the tail-sway circle, Rhea nudged her plain spiral shell and listened. Hush-hum. Hush-hum. She wanted to know why it only whispered when the older whales passed overhead, so she slipped past their swishing fins into the colder blue.

The water tasted salty and sharp. Bubbles tickled her chin, and the shell bumped her flipper—tap, tap—as if asking her to keep going. At the shell bank, a tiny voice sighed, “Turn it.” Rhea rolled the shell over and found a pearl-bright mark shaped like her own smile.

She hurried home with wobbly flippers and a warmer hum in her chest. When the great tails swept above her again, the shell answered louder: hush-hum, hush-home. Can you spot the little spiral shell that knew Rhea’s way back?
