Across the sunny yard, Pip patted a loose yarn string. Boing, wiggle, loop! The ball rolled a little, then stopped by a tuft of tickly grass. Pip crouched low, nose twitching at the woolly smell, and waited for it to move again.
A tiny gray mouse sat near the curl of string. It did not squeak or scamper. Pip blinked. Then the mouse went click-click, and its wheel feet rolled forward. “Oh!” Pip mewed. A toy mouse!
The toy bumped the yarn, and the ball spun round and round. Pip gave one careful tap, then another, until the string made a twisty trail for both of them. Look near the grass again — the patient little mouse is still ready for click-click adventure.
