🎨 How to color it

Layer deep teal into the central flower, antique gold on the two dotted circular bands, and plum violet through the pointed lotus petals and small triangles. Use sharp pencils and color from the center outward so the tiny beads, vein lines, and nested petal borders stay crisp. For a handmade glow, fade each large leaf shape from moss green at the vein to pale sage at the outer edge.

Behind the quietest arch of the courtyard, Orla kept a saucer of brass dots, a bone folder, and the ring she had nearly made by hand. One space still blinked empty. She wanted a last dot, no larger than a lentil, so she stepped beyond her alcove into the blue hour, where wet stone smelled of rain and her sandals clicked too loudly. At the fountain, a pale moth settled on her wrist as if it had been invited. “Not there,” it whispered, which is exactly the sort of thing moths say when no one else is listening.

Orla paid with the thread from her cuff, tying it around the moth’s soft middle so it could tow a moonlit seed from the fountain grate. Back in the arch, the seed would not match the brass. It glowed cooler, quieter, stubbornly its own. Orla set it in the empty space anyway, then pressed each dot around it with her thumb until the ring answered her touch. By morning, anyone could see the secret: the finest part was not the missing piece she fetched, but the one she dared to make room for behind the quietest arch.
