Every evening, after the pinecones went plunk-plunk on the roof, Logan raced down the cabin path and shouted his name toward the tall trees. He had set himself a challenge: wait until the forest answered with one clear echo. But he always jumped too soon, crunching gravel and calling again.
Until one windy evening, no echo came at all. Because of that, Logan followed the path past wet grass and smooth gray rocks. Because of that, he found the pines holding still, as if they were listening too. He took one slow breath. “Logan!” he called, then waited.
At last, from tree to tree, came a soft, bright “Logan!” The cabin chimney puffed, the path curled home, and the pinecones went plunk-plunk again. Can you spot where the patient echo might have bounced between the letters and trees?
