Under the tap-tap-tap of trowels, Mason set his tiny bubble level on the wall and waited for the bubble to sit in the middle. The little tool had been in his pocket all morning, warm as a cookie, because it held the first joke he ever made his baby sister laugh at: “Why did the brick blush? Because it saw the cement mixer!”
The wall crew rolled stones into a round arch. Scritch went the sand, clank went the hook, and Mason checked each block. Whenever the bubble wobbled, he whispered the joke, and the stone settled with a happy thunk.
Then the bubble popped to the left and giggled back. “Again!” it squeaked. The whole arch began to chuckle, one stone after another, until even the wheelbarrow gave a squeaky snort. Mason laughed so hard he shared the joke with every worker, every brick, and one nosy bucket. Next time you spot the level near the stones, see if its little bubble is still holding that blushy brick joke.
