🎨 How to color it

Give the ninja’s uniform a deep indigo, the paper lantern a warm red, the straw target a sandy tan, and the wooden beams a rich chestnut brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow mat grid and lantern lettering, then switch to smoother strokes on the larger sleeves and pant legs. Try a pale golden glow around the lantern so the sword, mask, and target feel caught in secret evening practice.

Under the red paper lantern, Sora tied his sash twice and set himself a challenge: three clean taps on the straw post before the flame burned down to its lowest rib. The dojo smelled of cedar dust and rice straw, and the woven mats whispered under his split-toed shoes. He left his favorite corner by the wall hooks and crossed to the center, where every creak sounded too loud.

First tap—soft. Second tap—sharper. On the third, his wooden sword clipped a loose rope knot, and the target spun with a husky shhh. The price was small but stinging: Sora’s knuckles brushed the rough straw, and his perfect count was gone. “Not again,” he breathed. Then the swinging target pushed a stripe of lantern light across the ceiling beam, revealing a tiny carved star he had never noticed.

Sora climbed the stand, pressed the star, and a narrow shelf clicked open. Inside lay an old cloth patch stitched with his clan’s sign and one word: Home. He tucked it inside his sash and returned to his corner, not because it was safe, but because it was his. Next time you see the lantern ribs, can you find the secret light that showed Sora where he belonged?
