Beneath the silent arches of the orbit hall, Elian copied star-knots until his ink smelled faintly of metal and rain. The circles around him widened in patient layers: moon, flower, comet, curl. A glassy chime answered each line he drew, though no bell hung nearby. Then a ringed planet turned within the central dark, not above him but toward him, and its golden bands matched the pulse in his wrist.
