🎨 How to color it

Color the cat’s patches caramel brown and soft gray, the flower petals coral and butter yellow, and the balcony rails a weathered blue-gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the cat’s wavy patch edges, whiskers, flower centers, and the thin railing spaces so the details stay crisp. Try making the pot a warm terracotta and adding a tiny darker shadow under the cat’s curled tail for extra depth.

By the warm humming radiator, Quill tucked his paws under his chest and watched rain bead on the fire-escape rails. He wanted one dry blossom from Mrs. Vale’s pot to tuck into the cracked mailbox downstairs, where the night doorman kept a jar of old buttons and never got mail. The wind smelled like wet brick and penny metal, and the landing looked slick as soap, but Quill pushed through the flap anyway.

Drip-tap, drip-tap. He stepped around puddles, paid for his trip with one muddy paw, and reached the flowerpot. No blossom was dry. Then his tail brushed the saucer, and something whispered underneath: a folded paper, hidden where nobody ever looked. Inside, in tiny blue writing, it said, “For whoever waters these when I forget — thank you.” Taped to it was a pressed violet, crisp and purple as evening.

Quill carried the violet down the stairs, past the smell of dust and raincoats, and slipped it into the doorman’s empty mailbox. “Secret delivery,” he meowed softly. Then he climbed back to the pot, sat beside the wet flowers, and let the radiator wait. If you spot his muddy paw near the flowerpot, you’ll know exactly where the secret began.
