🎨 How to color it

Color the layered hearts in bubblegum pink and coral, the daisy petals in butter yellow with navy centers, and the wavy stripe squares in pool blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the inner heart outlines and flower centers, then switch to broader strokes for the open petals and wave bands. Try making one diagonal trail of hearts slightly brighter, as if it is the secret path through the grid.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the rowing club annex clock, Quinn lined up three lemonade caps on the checkerboard floor and whispered the rules of a brand-new game: heart, daisy, wave; heart, daisy, wave. If the pattern reached the last row without breaking, Quinn would earn the striped captain’s ribbon from the dusty trophy case. The room smelled like old varnish and lemon polish, and the oars on the wall creaked whenever the wind pushed at the doors.

Then the pattern slipped. A wave sat where a daisy should be. Quinn stepped out from the soft leather chair, across cold tiles and past the locked coat cubbies, paying the price of one scuffed shoe and a sleeve brushed with cobwebs. “That tile is cheating,” Quinn said. But the next wrong square pointed to another, and another, until curiosity tugged harder than the ribbon ever had.

At the far wall, the runaway trail ended beneath a loose baseboard. Inside was a folded card, smelling faintly of peppermint: FIRST CAPTAIN’S SECRET ROUTE—FOR ANYONE WHO NOTICES. Quinn brought it back, not to win the ribbon, but to add a new rule. Next time you follow the hearts, daisies, and waves, can you spot where the game first runs away?
