🎨 How to color it

Give the princess’s gown a soft lavender, her crown a bright gold, the dragon a spring green, and the castle stones a warm gray. Use colored pencils for the dragon’s small scales and the gown’s curling hem designs, then fill the larger castle walls with smooth marker strokes. Try a pale blue sky with white clouds so the gold crown and green dragon feel extra bright in the garden.

Every afternoon, when the flags snapped high and the castle stones smelled warm from the sun, Princess Elowen traced the shadows of the towers in her blue notebook. She wanted to finish a map no one else had made: where the castle’s shadows went after sunset. The little dragon Orro followed her, humming smoke-rings that smelled like toasted cinnamon.

Until one day, Orro sneezed over the garden path, and his smoky hum turned into a silver whistle. Because of that, Elowen noticed a tiny door-shaped mark glowing beneath his chin, where no groom, guard, or dragon doctor had ever thought to look. Because of that, she touched it gently, and a cool brass key slid from between two smooth scales. “Hold still,” she whispered.

The key did not open the gate or any tower room. It opened Orro’s whistle. A staircase of pale sound climbed into the clouds, leading toward the place where evening shadows folded themselves away. Elowen laughed softly, curiosity racing ahead of her feet. If you follow the curve of Orro’s smile, can you guess where the next step appeared?
