🎨 How to color it

Give the puppy golden-brown ears, the doghouse warm cedar walls, the roof a bright red, and the bone sign a creamy white. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow fence posts, grass tufts, and roof edges so the lines stay crisp. Try a pale blue sky that fades to white around the sunbeams, making the red roof feel extra sunny.

Under the hot zing of afternoon sun, Rocco pushed a pebble with his nose from one grass tuft to the next. He had just invented Roof Run: every pebble was a “package,” every shadow was a river, and the doghouse roof was the mountain trail. His collar jingled as he raced, skidded, spun, and tucked the pebble beside the little bone sign. “Delivery complete!” he barked to the fence, which smelled like warm wood and clover.

The game grew faster. A leaf became a map. Three sticks became bridges. Rocco carried crumbs from his biscuit bowl to the doorway, not for points, but because the ants always marched past at sunset, tapping tiny feet through the dust. He tucked a soft dandelion puff in the corner too, in case a tired moth needed a pillow.

When evening purple touched the clouds, Rocco peeked out and saw his “packages” moving: ants lifting crumbs, a beetle rolling the dandelion stem, a sparrow tugging one stick for her nest. Nobody cheered, and nobody needed to. Next time you spot his paw at the doorway, the Roof Run may already be starting under that hot zing of sun.
