🎨 How to color it

Color the rainbow in soft red, peach, yellow, mint, sky blue, and lavender, then give the pine forests deep evergreen and the mountain slopes cool blue-gray shadows. Use sharp colored pencils for the many narrow river lines and pine needles, working from the far peaks down toward the larger foreground trees. Try making the river pale silver-blue with a brighter stripe where it bends, as if the rainbow is secretly shining on the water.

The story behind this coloring page

From the warm flat rock beside camp, Tessa flicked six pebbles into her tin cup—plink, plink, plink—and invented the Rainbow Rule. To win, she had to find red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet before the river made three big bends. Easy, she whispered. The valley smelled like pine sap and cold water, and the river kept flashing silver, as if it knew the rules too.

She stepped off the rock and followed the bank. Red came from a berry leaf, orange from lichen, yellow from a tiny feather, green from spruce tips. Then the mud gulped one sock with a squelch. Tessa nearly quit, but curiosity tugged harder than the wet wool. Past the second bend, blue hid in a stone’s stripe, and violet waited in a shadow under three smooth rocks.

When she climbed back, the cup held her colors and one extra secret: the river’s curves matched the rainbow overhead. “You were playing first,” she told it. Next time you trace that bright arch above the peaks, see if you can follow where its secret rule runs away.
