🎨 How to color it

Color the raptor sandy ocher with olive stripes, make the canyon walls rusty red and tan, and give the fern a deep desert green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny face spots, toe claws, cliff cracks, and fern leaflets, then switch to smoother strokes on the dinosaur’s body. Try a pale peach-to-blue sunset gradient behind the distant rock spires so the raptor’s warm colors stand out.

The story behind this coloring page

Rix and the Waiting Echo — Under a striped stone ledge, Rix tapped three pebbles with one claw: tik, tik, tok. Read the full story →

Under a striped stone ledge, Rix tapped three pebbles with one claw: tik, tik, tok. He had invented a game called Echo-Wait, and he wanted the canyon to tap back exactly the same way. Nothing answered but dry wind and the papery scratch of a fern. So Rix stepped off his shady ledge and followed the narrow trail between hot rocks, carrying his smoothest pebble under his tongue.

At the first bend, he tapped again. Tik, tik, tok. A pebble skittered loose above him and bounced away, taking his best game piece into a crack. Rix almost snapped after it, but the canyon held its breath. He waited. Far ahead came a softer sound: tik… tik… tok. Not an echo. A reply.

Rix walked until his feet were dusty and the cliff shadows turned purple. Beside a lonely fern, he found three little stones lined in the same pattern he had tapped, with a fourth stone waiting beside them. “Your turn,” Rix whispered. He placed his lost pebble’s twin at the end and hurried home slower than he had left, listening between each step. If you follow the pebbles near his feet, can you find where Echo-Wait begins again?
