🎨 How to color it

Color the baker’s tall chef hat soft white with a cherry-red cupcake badge, her apron sunny yellow with tiny pastel cupcakes, and the frosted treats pink, mint, and chocolate brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the sprinkles, freckles, whisk wires, and jar labels, then switch to broader strokes for the bowl, window, and cabinets. Try making every cupcake on the tray a different “secret flavor” by giving each frosting swirl its own two-color blend.

The story behind this coloring page

The Batter That Blinked — Behind the warm bakery counter, Quilla whisked vanilla batter until it went flap-flap against the bowl. Read the full story →

Behind the warm bakery counter, Quilla whisked vanilla batter until it went flap-flap against the bowl. She wanted one more cupcake flavor for the Saturday tray, something so curious that customers would sniff twice before taking a bite. Flour dust tickled her nose, sugar glittered on the shelf, and the sprinkle jar made a tiny rain sound whenever the floorboards creaked.

She leaned close to the bowl. “Raspberry? Lemon? Pickle?” Plop. A batter bubble rose, opened one shiny eye, and blinked at her. Then the jars began to wiggle: FLOUR nodded slowly, SUGAR tapped its lid, and SPRINKLES rattled like a maraca. Quilla stopped whisking. The batter had not been waiting for a flavor. It had been waiting for a vote.

The sprinkle jar jumped three times, which apparently meant “banana-cocoa confetti.” Quilla laughed so hard her glasses slid down her nose, then spooned the mischievous batter into little paper cups. When the oven bell chimed, the cupcakes smelled like breakfast, birthday, and a secret handshake. If you peek back at the bakery shelf, can you spot which jar still looks ready to vote again?
