From the highest candy shelf, a tiny sugar dot went pop, pop, pop across the floor. Bixby tucked a small present under one arm, grabbed his striped candy-cane staff, and tiptoed after it through the sweet, minty pantry. Every time the dot bounced, the jars gave a little clink.
The dot zipped past peppermint drops, around gumdrops, and under Bixby’s curly shoe. “Wait for my nose!” Bixby whispered, because his nose always arrived first. He tapped the floor with his staff, and the dot hopped onto a round lollipop leaning nearby.
Then the lollipop sneezed. “Piff!” It was not a lollipop at all, but a sugar snail wearing a swirl shell. The floating candies spun like tiny moons, and Bixby laughed so hard his hat bobbled.
“Tag?” asked the snail. Bixby touched the gift ribbon to the fizzy dot, and off they all went—pop, clink, piff—through the pantry. Can you spot the swirl shell that started it?
