🎨 How to color it

Color the sunflower’s face golden yellow, the layered petals sunny orange, the big leaves bright green, and the smiling sun lemon yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the large round face and wide petals, then switch to a sharper pencil for the little freckles and leaf veins. Try making the curving sky rays alternate pale blue and soft pink so the flower looks like it is bursting with excitement.

The story behind this coloring page

Pippa and the Sun Key — Every morning, Pippa clicked her tiny brass key against her stem—tink, tink!—and aimed her face at the warmest stripe of sun. Read the full story →

Every morning, Pippa clicked her tiny brass key against her stem—tink, tink!—and aimed her face at the warmest stripe of sun. The key looked plain, but to Pippa it was Grand-Aunt Petal’s promise: “It opens what curiosity finds.” One windy morning, the sunbeams bent into a bright path over the cloud valley, and a little door-shaped shadow skittered across the sky. “Wait for me!” Pippa cried, leaves flapping like flags.

Because of that, the clouds puffed into stepping-stones that smelled like rainwater. Because of THAT, Pippa bounced higher and higher until the brass key hummed in her leaf. At last, she touched it to the shadow-door, and click! Out rushed a parade of lost morning colors—peach, blue, butter, rose—swirling back into the sky. From then on, Pippa still clicked the key each morning, but now she listened for running-away questions too; can you spot the sunbeam path that first made it go tink, tink?
