🎨 How to color it

Color the smiling engine cherry red, the elephant soft gray, the giraffe golden yellow with caramel spots, and the lion sandy tan. Use broad crayon or marker fills for the train cars and hills, then switch to a sharp pencil for the giraffe spots, monkey curls, and tiny birds. Try making the sun lemon yellow with orange rays so it feels extra warm above the safari trees.

In the cool hush before the gates opened, Uma tapped a tiny striped seed in her pocket and whispered, “Not yet, but soon.” She wanted to plant it by the new rails before the first ride, but every patch of dirt felt wrong—too dry, too shady, too close to the tick-tick wheels.

The elephant sniffed dusty air. The giraffe stretched over the car. The monkey drummed, pat-pat-pat, and the lion blinked in the warm light. Uma waited until the smiling sun slipped between two flat-topped trees and made one bright spot on the hill. There she tucked in the seed.

Up grew a whistle-flower that laughed, woo-woo, whenever animals passed. Ever since, zoo trains smile on the front, so the flower knows they are friends. Next time you see the happy engine, can you find the patient sun that showed Uma where to plant the tiny striped seed?
