Under the pine tree, Bram tapped his carrot nose three times. He had set himself a challenge: bring back one moonbeam before the last bell jingled from the far-off town. The air smelled like cold needles and peppermint snow.
He stepped away from his cozy tree. Crunch, crunch, crunch went the yard under his round feet. A soft silver glow winked beside a striped present, but the path was prickly with fallen pine cones. Bram bumped one, lost a mitten, and whispered, “I’ll come back for you.”
Inside the ribboned box was no toy at all. It held tiny paper stars from every house nearby, each one glowing with a wish. Bram hurried back, one mitten short, and hung the stars on the tree for everyone to see. Can you find the mitten he nearly left behind, after Bram tapped his carrot nose three times?
