🎨 How to color it

Color the fireflies lemon yellow, the mason jar a pale sky blue, the crescent moon buttercream, and the tall grass fresh green. Use light, gentle strokes inside the jar so the little glow lines around each bug stay bright and easy to see. Try making every firefly’s glow a tiny yellow halo, with one secret firefly shining soft orange near the tag.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Fireflies Blink Home — Under the warm grass, Tula held a plain paper tag that smelled like sun-dried string. She wanted to hang it on the right jar before the moon climbed high. Read the full story →

Under the warm grass, Tula held a plain paper tag that smelled like sun-dried string. She wanted to hang it on the right jar before the moon climbed high. Many jars waited in the meadow, but only one was supposed to hum her family’s tiny tune.

Tula tapped each glass rim. Ting. Ting. Then one jar answered, bummm, like a bee under a blanket. Inside, little lights blinked hello, hello, hello. Tula tied on her tag and whispered, “This is ours.”

The moon tipped closer, and every firefly blinked back the same secret beat. Ever since, fireflies flash to say, “Here is where you belong.” Next time you see one wink in summer grass, can you hear Tula’s jar humming?
