🎨 How to color it

Color the shark sky blue with a pale cream belly, make the floating hearts cherry red and pink, and give the heart-shaped stone lavender swirls with a yellow star. Use broad crayon or marker strokes on the shark’s round body, then switch to a sharper pencil for the little teeth, heart highlights, and bubble letters. Try making every heart a tiny bit different, as if the shark’s happy splash sent a whole rainbow of Valentine wishes upward.

Under the soft morning tide, a little shark named Bix nudged a painted heart stone through the sand. It was only as big as a clam, with one tiny star on it, but it hummed warm against Bix’s fin. He wanted to find the place that hummed back. The pebble tide clicked and ticked around him, and cold bubbles brushed his nose. “This way?” Bix whispered.

At the wavy edge of a quiet reef, the stone gave one deep thrum. Bix smiled so wide that bubbles popped from his gills, but they did not turn round. They rose as hearts, bob-bob-bobbing past sea grass and little shells. Every fish tucked close, as if the water had made a room just for them. Ever since, when a Valentine wish feels exactly at home, the sea sends it up as a heart bubble. Can you spot the starry stone that first hummed back?
