Every day after breakfast, Bex tied sea-floss around smooth reef eggs and set them in a zigzag course. “Ready, fins, hop!” he shouted, and the tiny fish zoomed between bubbles with swish-swish tails.
Until one day, Bex invented Bubble-Hop with bunny-ear hoops he bent from bendy kelp. A sneezy current whooshed in smelling like salt and lemons, rolling the egg markers everywhere. Because of that, the fish chased the wrong bubbles. Because of that, Bex grabbed coral chalk and drew flower signs on each egg: dot, stripe, flower, turn! Finally, the game zipped perfectly around the reef, and Bex’s chest felt bigger than a whale song. If you spot the flower signs next time, whisper, “Ready, fins, hop!”
