🎨 How to color it

Color the capybara warm cocoa brown, the apple rosy red, and the tall leaves two bright jungle greens. The big open body and apple are perfect for chunky crayons or broad marker strokes, while the tiny fur marks can be left as black lines. Try making the apple leaf a lighter green than the side plants so the little sprout stands out in the capybara’s paws.

The story behind this coloring page

Every day, Pip rolled the round bell-fruit to the reed dock and listened for its soft bong in the mist. The sound told the sleepy turtles to paddle out and the dragonflies to lift from the warm brown water. Until one day, the bell-fruit made no sound at all. Pip pressed his ear to its smooth red skin. Nothing. Only the reeds whispered, hush-hush.

Because of that, the turtles stayed tucked like stones. Because of that, the dragonflies clung to their stems, silver wings closed. Pip’s paws trembled, but he held the fruit close and whispered, “I can peek.” He bit one tiny door in the skin. Inside, where nobody thought to look, curled a pale green sprout, already humming. Pip planted it beside the dock, and by sunset the new little bell rang ting-ting in the breeze. Next time you see Pip holding that fruit, can you spot the quiet surprise waiting to sing?
